2016
Democrats high hopes of re-taking the Senate fell short as they only managed to pick up two seats, T.Duckworth ousting M.Kirk in Illinois and M.Hassan besting K.Ayotte by a very narrow margin in New Hampshire. Three very close races ended up in the Republican column; in Pennsylvania P.Toomey def. K.McGinty by 48.9% to 47.2%, in Missouri R.Blunt def. J.Kander by 49.4% to 46.2%, and in Wisconsin R.Johnson def. R.Feingold by 50.2% to 46.8%. North Carolina was closer than expected; R.Burr def. D.Ross by 51.1% to 45.3%. In Florida M.Rubio fended off a challenge from P.Murphy by 52.0% to 44.3%. in Arizona A.Kirkpatrick lost by 12 percentage points, and in Indiana E.Bayh lost by almost 10 percentage points. In Ohio T.Strickland fell well short, losing by more than 20 percentage points.
