The
first day when members of the Site Selection Committee arrived in their
hotel rooms, they received a red sack from Big Tex, the icon of the
State Fair of Texas, that included a welcome note from
the new president of the State Fair of Texas, Mitchell Glieber, an
invitation to that evening’s
reception, a 2014 t-shirt with the new brand,
“Deep in the Heart of Texans” along with a Big Tex magnet and a Big Tex
lapel pin. In addition members found a recorded welcome message
from Big Tex on their room phones. That night when they returned to their rooms from the festivities of the day they received the Neiman Marcus chocolate chip cookies, a welcome message from Phillip Jones, CEO of the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau and a silver elephant, an item from Wonder Workshop made of recycled materials and by workers with disabilities. The
second day’s gift after touring the facilities and experiencing the
convention Dallas style, members received a convention shirt, randomly
chosen from the
three designs, a conventioneer button and a a copy of a photo
taken during the 1984 convention of Bush and Reagan together contained
in a silver frame engraved with
a phrase from Reagan’s speech. That night their take away gift consisted of a replica of the 1984 convention bag filled with Dallas literature and brochures and a small box filled with various products representing Texas, the idea being they would go home with items that a typical visitor might collect while attending a Republican National Convention in Dallas. |
