RNC's Announces Next Phase of the 2016 Republican National Convention Site Selection Process

 
WASHINGTON – Today the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) Site Selection Committee (SSC) voted to narrow the list of sites in contention for the 2016 Republican National Convention from eight to six cities. Cities moving on to the next round of consideration are Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, and Las Vegas.  
 
A small team of RNC staff will visit the six cities for a more in-depth and technical look at financing, convention venues, media workspace, and hotels. The SSC will reconvene soon after the RNC’s Spring Meeting to make a determination on which of these six cities will receive official site visits from the full RNC delegation.

Following today’s vote, SSC Chair Enid Mickelsen released the following statement: 

“After a painstaking review, I’m pleased to announce that six cities have moved on to the next round of consideration for the 2016 Republican National Convention. The eyes of the world will be on the RNC and our host city in the summer of 2016, and these six cities have shown they have what it takes to move forward. 

“In any other year, Columbus and Phoenix could have topped the list, but with so many strong cities competing, the committee had to make the difficult decision to narrow the field.  Phoenix and Columbus are great American cities, and I hope they’ll pursue a future bid for an RNC convention.  

“I want to thank each city for their tireless efforts and hard work throughout this process, and I look forward to this next phase as we select a city to help us nominate the next Republican President of the United States.”

 Denver on course to host 2016 Republican National Convention

Make next stage in site selection process.  

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. – Today, the Republican National Committee announced that Denver has been invited to the next stage in the site selection process to host the 2016 Republican National Convention. 
 
“We believe that no city is better equipped to host the Republican National Convention, and we are excited to make it to the next stage in the selection process,” Denver 2016 Chairman Pete Coors said.  “We will continue to work with our bipartisan coalition of business, civic and political leaders to show the Site Selection Committee just why Denver is the best choice to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.” 

Advance staff for the RNC will visit Denver in late April or early May, followed by official visits by the Site Selection Committee in late May and June. 

“This is the exciting part in the process,” Colorado Republican Committee Chairman Ryan Call said.  “Now the Site Selection Committee will get to experience what makes Denver the jewel of the Rockies.”

Kansas City One of Six Cities Selected for an RNC Technical Visit in Chase for 2016 Republican National Convention

RNC will send advance groups to Kansas City, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver and Las Vegas before site visit announcement in May

April 2, 2014 (Kansas City, Mo.) – Today, Enid Mickelsen, chairwoman of the 2016 RNC Site Selection Committee, called Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James to notify him that the field of eight cities vying for the 2016 convention has been narrowed to six. Kansas City, along with Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver and Las Vegas have been selected for visits by an RNC advance team designed take a more in-depth, technical look at several aspects of each cities’ bid, including financing, convention venues, media workspace and hotels. These visits are to take place prior to the RNC’s Spring Meeting in Memphis, Tenn.

“On behalf of the KC2016 Bid Task Force, we are pleased to advance to the next round in a very important process for the RNC,” said KC2016 Bid Task Force Co-Chair and Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Sly James. “We understand the importance of a seamless and worry-free convention for the RNC in 2016 and are extremely grateful to Chairwoman Mickelson, the Site Selection Committee, RNC Chairman Reince Preibus and the RNC staff for this opportunity.”

The announcement marked the first cut in the Site Selection Committee’s process to select a Host City. All competing cities submitted formal bids on or before Feb. 26 and made formal presentations to the RNC in March. According to the notification, the advance group will present their findings to the Site Selection Committee during the RNC Spring Meeting in May. At that time, the Site Selection Committee will meet to determine which cities will be selected for official site visits. These visits will take place in late May and June. The RNC has not stated how many cities will be chosen for site visits.

Las Vegas Advances to Next Round in RNC Convention Site Selection Process

RNC Official to Visit Soon

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 2016 Host Committee was officially notified by the Chairman of the 2016 Republican National Convention Site Selection Committee, Enid Mickelsen today that Las Vegas has been chosen to advance to the next round of finalists cities to host the national convention.
 
 “We are thrilled and honored to move onto the next stage of this process,” said Jack St. Martin the Executive Director of Las Vegas 2016.  “Las Vegas knows how to host this kind of event and we are confident that the more the RNC investigates what we have to offer, the more they will want to host the convention here in 2016.”

Las Vegas 2016 and RNC officials will now coordinate a visit to the city in April or May led by a small RNC staff team that will conduct a more in-depth and technical look at financing, convention venues, media workspace, and hotels. 
 
“We look forward to sitting down with the RNC delegation to further demonstrate our capacity to put on an incredible convention” Lt. Governor Krolicki, the Chairman of Las Vegas 2016 said.  “This is what we do.”
 
Las Vegas hosted more than 21,000 conventions with 5 million attendees in 2012 alone.  It has been the number one convention destination in North America for 19 years in a row.  With nearly 150,000 hotel rooms, Las Vegas could have hosted all the attendees of the Tampa GOP Convention inside a one-mile radius and within a mile of the airport.
