Iowa State Fair—2016 Candidates Hit the Soapbox

Twenty of the 22 major announced candidates for president are scheduled to visit the 2015 Iowa State Fair; missing are Sen. Rand Paul and former Gov. Jim Gilmore.  Most of presidential candidates will be speaking at the Des Moines Register's Soapbox.  Former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are skipping the Soapbox although will both be visiting the Fair on August 15.   The candidates speak for 20 minutes including questions.  The audience, seated on hay bales off the Grand Concourse, includes supporters, representatives of interest groups and interested citizens; additionally members of the general public who happen to be passing by may stop and listen.  The Soapbox differs from typical campaign events at this stage of the process, which largely draw dedicated activists and may have limits on access.

The Fair runs from August 13-23, 2015
