of state / territory Republican delegate selection contests shows
dates, number
of delegates, and cumulative total. Click on the dates for
contest details. A total of
2,472 delegates were at stake
in 56
contests over four-plus months between February 1 and June 7,
2016. In 31 states with 1,247 delegates (54.5%) the system was
proportional, usually with a threshhold of 15% or more. Ten
contests with 400 delegates (16.2%) were winner take all. Ten
contests with a total of 613 delegates (24.8%) had a hybrid
system. In five contests there was no preference poll. The magic
number of delegates needed to win the nomination was 1,237. Donald Trump garnered
just over 14 million total votes,
winning 37 contests including the final 16 contests, all
