Judicial Crisis Network Welcomes Gov. Christie to South Carolina With Ad Campaign and New Poll Urging Him to Change Course on Judicial Nominations

66% of South Carolina GOP Voters Would be More Likely to Vote Against Christie Over His Record on Judicial Nominations

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Judicial Crisis Network today welcomed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to South Carolina with radio and billboard ads, as well as a poll highlighting his poor record on judicial nominations. Christie, an anticipated Republican candidate for president in 2016, will likely heavily court GOP voters in this First in the South primary state, but a new poll urges him to change course on his judicial nominations if he seriously wants their votes.

“The issue of judicial nominations is as potent in South Carolina as any early 2016 primary state among Republican voters. Our poll shows an overwhelming majority of South Carolina Republicans – 66 percent – would be more likely to vote against Chris Christie after learning that he broke his promise to fix his state’s liberal supreme court by appointing justices who follow the rule of law, choosing instead to nominate several liberal judicial activists. Almost every respondent – 98 percent – said it was important that the next president appoint judges with a record of basing their decisions on the Constitution and the law as it is written,” said JCN Chief Counsel Carrie Severino. “Unless Gov. Christie changes course on this issue and starts to live up to the promises he made to the people of New Jersey in his campaign, it will confront him head on if he chooses to run for president.”

JCN is running radio ads highlighting Christie’s poor record on judicial nominations for five days as well as digital billboards in the Charleston area for seven days. JCN ran similar campaigns in the early presidential primary and caucus states of Iowa and New Hampshire when Christie visited those states earlier this year.

JCN also commissioned a poll of 502 South Carolina GOP primary voters, the survey was conducted by Wilson Perkins Allen Opinion Research September 10-11, 2014 and has a margin of error of +/- 4.4%.
