Indiana Mayors Announce Support for Clinton

Headed into Indiana's May 3rd primary, mayors from across the state highlighted their support for Hillary Clinton, citing her record to fight for Hoosiers, raise wages, and break down all the barriers holding families back.

"Hillary Clinton has spent a lifetime fighting for others. I've been impressed as she listens to people across Indiana and puts forward real solutions that will lead to better-paying jobs, investments in our small businesses and manufacturers, affordable college, and a good education for every child. Continuing South Bend's economic comeback will require smart, stable, strong leadership for our country. Uniting Americans to lift up working people, she will be a great president for communities like ours," said Peter Buttigieg, Mayor of South Bend.

"From winning health care for eight million kids to taking on the gun lobby, Hillary Clinton has spent a lifetime fighting for children and families. As president, she has specific plans to get things done like raising Hoosier wages, lowering healthcare costs, and strengthening Social Security. She won't ever quit," said Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.

"Our city needs a president who empowers a new generation to break through the barriers of bigotry that divide us - not build up walls but create bridges of opportunity. Hillary Clinton will be a president who can bring people together to get results on our toughest challenges. As the Mayor of Indianapolis, I hope that people come together to support Hillary Clinton," said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett.

"With Hillary Clinton as our president, we will have a partner in the White House to create good paying jobs to raise incomes, put people back to work, and bolster our economy. Hillary Clinton has stood up dictators and fought back trade abuses, and I know she will fight harder than anyone to keep our jobs and business here in Indiana," said Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott, Jr.

"Our future economic security is intertwined with manufacturing, and we need an advocate who will never stop fighting for workers. Communities like Lafayette depend on smart partnerships and investments in innovation which is why we need a leader like Hillary focused on protecting good paying jobs and building our state's manufacturing workforce," said Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski.

Last week, the Mayors of Kokomo and Fort Wayne highlighted Hillary Clinton's long record of fighting for auto workers and her plan to strengthen manufacturing and the U.S. auto industry.

"One in four workers in Kokomo depend on the auto industry, and Hillary Clinton has never wavered in her support of workers and their families. When the American auto industry was in distress and it counted most, Hillary voted to save Hoosier jobs and prevent an economic collapse. She's stood with the workers here, and I'm proud to stand with her," said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight.

"Thousands of Hoosier jobs were at risk in 2008 and 2009, and Hillary Clinton had the courage to stand with our workers and vote to protect jobs here in Indiana. She's consistently been on the frontline to protect jobs right here in our community and will strengthen manufacturing and ensure Indiana and cities like Fort Wayne can compete in a 21st century economy. Hillary is a commonsense choice to serve as our next president," said Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry.
