Citing Her Commitment to Kentucky Families, Gov. Steve Beshear Endorses Hillary Clinton

Today, former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear announced his support for Hillary Clinton ahead of next Tuesday's Democratic presidential primary. Citing her commitment to fight for Kentucky families and children, Beshear endorsed Clinton for her tenacity and experience, especially in delivering health care reforms that have helped expand health insurance to millions of children.

"In this time of division and derision, we need a calm, sensible and experienced hand leading this nation. Hillary Clinton is that leader, and I enthusiastically endorse her to be President of these United States," said former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear. "Having worked aggressively and in a collaborative fashion as Kentucky’s Governor to improve life for our people, I know that she is committed to the same key issues – partnering with others to create jobs and expand access to affordable health care.

"As first lady, Hillary led the charge to pass health care reform so that all families would have access to the care they need," Beshear continued. "When that effort was defeated, she didn’t quit, she kept fighting. She reached across the aisle to create the Children's Health Insurance Program, which covers more than 8 million children and cut the uninsured rate among children in half nationwide. Given the battle playing out over health care access in Kentucky, we need a leader and ally in the White House who understands the importance of fighting for health care. That's why I'm with her: Hillary will stand up with us against efforts to pull the rug out from under our families, and she'll never give up. Hillary respects the dignity of all people, she has a proven record of building consensus and she stood strong for America’s interests in pivotal moments. She will make a great President."
