Ahead of First Debate, Together for America New York Launches for Republicans and Independents Backing Hillary Clinton

Ahead of the first debate tonight in the candidates’ home state of New York, Together for America New York is launching and announcing the first group of a growing number of Republicans and Independents who are stepping forward to endorse Hillary Clinton for president. The list includes current and former New York Republican elected officials, retired Army and Navy officers, a small business owner, a 25-year veteran of the FDNY, and numerous business or community leaders.

“We are proud to have the support of such a broad base of New Yorkers,” Rodney Capel Hillary for America New York State Director said. “As Senator, Hillary Clinton knew what it meant to reach across the aisle to get things done, and the individuals on this list have seen that she can bring people together to get results. That’s what she will bring to the white house. In the state that knows both candidates the best – their home state – this growing group of Republicans and independents are putting their country ahead of their party and backing Hillary Clinton. They know that Hillary Clinton is ready one day one with concrete plans to strengthen the middle class while Donald Trump is too reckless, unqualified and temperamentally unfit to be in the White House.”

"Hillary Clinton will be a more effective and thoughtful leader and is by far better equipped to deal with the problems and challenges confronting Urban America.” -  Joel Giambra, former Erie County Executive

These leaders know that Clinton understands the complex and volatile world we live in and has the experience and temperament to be president and lead the nation as Commander in Chief and that Donald Trump does not. Hours ahead of the first debate, these endorsements send a strong signal to Republican and Independent voters that respected leaders are putting country over political party in this election.

"As a New York City developer, I have had a front-row seat to the curious career of Donald Trump. He morphed from a builder to a showman to an aspiring statesman. I have seen nothing in the forty years I have known Donald to qualify him to be President of the United States. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is a tested public servant with a steady hand and head that is ready to lead." – Douglas Durst, Chairman of the Durst Organization

"As a lifelong Republican, with 22 years of elected service in a predominantly Republican county, I am supporting Hillary for President. As a wife, mother and grandmother, I view this presidential election as a choice between known and unknown leadershiip qualities and not at all about party affiliation. Simply put, Hillary Clinton it prepared to be President." – Anita Daly, Republican, former Saratoga County Supervisor for 22 years

"Hillary Clinton's success as Senator demonstrates that she is the superior candidate and will make an excellent President. Her tenure as Senator from New York was exemplary. She was energetic, well prepared, and engaged -- representing New York vigorously and effectively during challenging times post-9/11. I was particularly impressed with her strong desire to work across party lines, helping promote and defend the State's economic, agricultural, environmental, and defense interests. I am pleased to support her." – Tim Clancy, Former Chief of Staff, Rep. Sherwood Boehlert

"As a Republican small business owner, I know that Hillary Clinton's support over many years has allowed my family business to grow and add jobs, which makes our agribusiness infrastructure strong and vibrant. The personal efforts of former Senator Clinton have enabled a small business like mine to become a pioneer in a large industry segment." – Roxaina Hulburt, Director of Marketing, Mercer’s Dairy, Boonville, NY

"Secretary Clinton is dedicated and committed to support Veterans and their families. I have witnessed this firsthand. I would not "be with her" if I didn't think she was the best candidate to be our next President and Commander-in-Chief." – Scott Rutter, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army Retired, Former Chairman of the National Advisory Board: Veterans and Military Families, Romney for President

  • Richard Hanna, U.S. Congressman (R-NY)
  • Douglas Durst, Chairman of the Durst Organization
  • Joel Giambra, former Erie County Executive, Buffalo, NY

  • Scott Rutter, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army Retired, Former Chairman of the National Advisory Board - Veterans and Military Families, Romney for President
  • Lee Beaulac, President, Beaulac Associates LLC, Rural development advocate and former chair of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Naples, NY

Hillary for New York Revamps and Expands Leadership Council for GOTV Week and Beyond

300-Member ‘Victory Leaders Council’ Will Help Hillary Clinton and Down-Ballot Candidates in New York Win Big on Election Day

The Council Will Continue After November to Ensure New York Remains a Deep Blue State and Hillary’s Presidential Policy Agenda Is Enacted

Hillary for New York today announced it will revamp and expand its statewide leadership council to ensure Secretary Clinton and down-ballot candidates throughout the Empire State win big on Election Day.  This “Victory Leaders Council” will be comprised of over 300 elected officials and coalition leaders who will help build a grassroots-driven volunteer team on behalf of Secretary Clinton and Democratic candidates.  The structure will live on through the Democratic National Committee beyond November to help Democrats win in midterm elections, flip Republican majorities, and ensure President Hillary Clinton has the support she needs to enact her policy agenda.

The New York Victory Leaders Council will be volunteer-led and driven but will work closely with Rodney Capel, the campaign's New York State Director, and Erin Stevens, the New York State Political Director, as well as the executive director and chair of the state party.  Members will not only keep stakeholders engaged through regular meetings but will also organize door-to-door canvasses, phone banks, and other Get-Out-The-Vote efforts.  The Victory Leaders Council will also amplify the campaign’s -- and ultimately the new Clinton Administration’s -- national voice to New York families who support Hillary’s vision for America that celebrates diversity and is built on an economy that works for everyone.

“Winning elections up and down the ballot this November will be a central part of ensuring the Empire State remains the progressive capital of the country and Hillary Clinton has the support she needs to enact her agenda in the White House,” said Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. “I am honored to be part of the Victory Leaders Council in New York, and look forward to continuing coordinating with the Clinton-Kaine campaign and other stakeholders to help Democrats win big this November and in the election cycles to come.”

“The stakes this election couldn’t be higher,” said NYS Democratic Committee Chairman and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. “New York and the entire country will be stronger together under Hillary Clinton or divided under Donald Trump. I am proud to be a member of the Victory Leaders Council, and promise to continue working every day to help elect the only candidate with the experience and temperament necessary to be commander-in-chief.”

“New Yorkers know Hillary Clinton. She is one of our own. We know how hard she has worked for us and we're going to work just as hard to make sure she becomes president. We have had the fortune of having a front row seat watching her lead on everything from the rebuilding of lower Manhattan after 9/11, to providing healthcare to our first responders to rush to respond, to standing up for women and the LGBT community, and to being part of the national security team that take out Osama Bin Laden," said NYS Democratic Committee Vice Chair Christine C. Quinn. "Knowing what we know about her and what she can do for this country we will leave no stone unturned as we canvass door-to-door, phone bank, and deploy thousands of volunteers across New York to do everything in our power to elect the first woman president of the United States and bar none the single most qualified candidate for the position that we have seen in our lifetime. I am honored to be on the front lines of this effort as a member of the Victory Leaders Council.”

“I’m proud to represent the 120,000 members of Teamsters Joint Council 16 on Secretary Clinton’s Victory Leaders Council,” said Teamsters International President-At Large George L. Miranda. “This effort will be critical in helping ensure we elect Hillary Clinton as our next president of the United States, and that she has the grassroots and organizational support necessary to continue fighting on behalf of millions of working men and women across the country.”

“Whether it’s passing equal pay for equal work or making college debt-free for all Americans, Secretary Clinton is dedicated to enacting the most progressive policy platform in generations,” said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. “But we need to turn red states blue and elect Democratic state houses across the country if we’re going to make that happen. The Victory Leaders Council is one tool in making Hillary Clinton’s agenda a reality.”

“Hillary Clinton knows better than anyone that winning down-ballot elections this November will be crucial to protecting President Obama’s legacy and continuing to move the country forward under her leadership,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. “New Yorkers know the choice is clear this election cycle, and with the help of the Victory Leaders Council, they are going to make sure Donald Trump and Republicans running across the country are halted in their tracks.”

Below is the Victory Leaders Council roster for New York. This Council is still in formation and additional members may be added on a rolling basis.
