ACU ANNOUNCES CARLY FIORINA AS NEW CHAIRMAN OF FOUNDATION

Contact: Laura Rigas

WASHINGTON, D.C. – American Conservative Union (ACU) Chairman Al Cardenas today announced that he has appointed Carly Fiorina to serve as the Chairman of the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF), the educational arm of the ACU.  Ms. Fiorina will succeed current ACUF Chairman Cleta Mitchell on October 1, 2013.

“Cleta Mitchell has been an excellent Chairman of the Foundation, and I appreciate very much her service to ACU and ACUF, as well as her incredible dedication to the conservative movement,” Chairman Cardenas said.  “Cleta will continue to play a pivotal role in both the ACU and the ACUF through her direct involvement in the program design and execution of CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference.”

Most recently, Mitchell has been nationally recognized for her role in helping to expose the IRS scandal and the targeting of conservative and Tea Party organizations by the Obama IRS and Department of Justice.  She serves as counsel to True the Vote and the National Organization for Marriage in their lawsuits against the IRS, and is one of the leading political law attorneys in America.

Carly Fiorina is a veteran of Fortune 500 boardrooms and a U.S. Senate campaign, most notably serving as the C.E.O. of Hewlett Packard for 6 years and challenging Barbara Boxer for her California Senate seat.  Now a resident of Virginia, Fiorina’s conservative philosophy has been battle-tested on Wall Street and Main Street.  “It’s one thing to be a conservative among friends; it’s quite another to be an unapologetic public conservative in California,” said Al Cardenas.  “At this pivotal moment for our nation’s economy, we look forward to Carly’s razor sharp insights into restoring prosperity and entrepreneurship to America.”

“I very much look forward to reaching out to all Americans – whether they think of themselves as conservatives or not – and engaging in a conversation about why the principles of personal liberty and personal responsibility simply work better,” said Fiorina.  “Bloated and unaccountable bureaucracies cannot make better decisions than families and entrepreneurs can make for themselves.”
