Republican Main Street Partnership Launches Unity and Strength in Action

2016 Convention Galvanizes Organization To State What Unites Republicans

CLEVELAND – In advance of the start of the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, the Republican Main Street Partnership today launched a statement of principles aimed at uniting the GOP (below).

At a time when the country is enduring some of the deepest divisions it has witnessed in decades, the Republican Main Street Partnership is asking all voters in America to remember what the Republican Party has stood for as it moves forward during these troubled times.

“Now, more than ever, America needs the governing values of the Republican Party,” said Republican Main Street Partnership President Sarah Chamberlain.  “There is much more about the Republican Party that unites us than divides us and I encourage everyone at the Republican Convention to take to heart our message and support our ideals this fall.”

The Republican Main Street Partnership represents the governing wing of the Republican Party. Main Street’s membership is comprised of mainstream fiscally conservative elected officials along with individuals and entities that support our mission. Main Street works with our elected officials, members, supporters and allies to develop and promote policy for implementation at
appropriate levels of government.

The Republican Main Street Partnership’s 2016 USA Unity and Strength in Action

We, the members of the Republican Main Street Partnership, seek to overcome divisions and preserve Republican Party unity by reaffirming our core beliefs with the stated goal of healing our nation and laying a path to ensure freedom, security, and prosperity for all Americans.
Us Republicans, we believe that we all belong to one nation, indivisible. We believe that every citizen matters. We acknowledge the God-given freedom and dignity of every individual, endowed with the rights inherent in our common human nature and set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We are dedicated to the Abraham Lincoln tradition of civil rights and civil liberties for all, within an orderly society in which respect for the rule of law is paramount.

Republicans are pragmatic, principled conservatives. Our aim is to govern responsibly in the national interest. Guided by the wisdom of our predecessors, we seek solutions that will improve the lives of all Americans, not a select few. Good policy will always yield good politics.

OUR PARTY AND OUR COUNTRY AS PART OF THE GLOBAL ECONOMY
Free trade is important to Republicans and we must remain internationalists because we recognize that the American economy is increasingly interconnected with world markets. And we’re forward-looking because we accept the relentless churn of capitalism, which brings new freedoms and new ways of doing things.  Freedom is the core of all human progress.

NATIONAL SECURITY
Republican leadership must once again restore our global prominence as defenders of freedom for all humankind. The need for strong allies at this moment in history is paramount; keeping in mind that democracy means nothing without freedom.  America’s strength, and those of her allies, must be afforded the resources to defeat the international threats to our way of life, such as ISIS and the threat of radical Islamic-based terror.  With the threat to our homeland never higher, we must maintain and advance the world’s most advanced military and do all we can to keep our servicemen and servicewomen safe on the battlefield and extend them every possible opportunity upon their return to civilian life.

ECONOMY
We recognize that America’s economy is still the best investment in the global marketplace.  As governing Republicans we know that we must not slow down America’s economic engine, and use the power of our institutions to empower our job creators and bring home those who have fled our shores.  A major purpose of government is to facilitate private-sector wealth creation by reducing taxes so that business can create jobs and individuals can keep and spend more of what they earn.  We believe in free competition in both enterprise and ideas. We support equality of opportunity, not outcomes.  Our government must take every practical step to ensure that American businesses and workers have the opportunity to compete and win in the worldwide marketplace. We support free trade but will never tolerate unfair competition.

HEALTH AND INFRASTRUCTURE
While a smaller government is the desired outcome of all policy, we must recognize that there is a need for the federal government to make investments in critical areas — including education, infrastructure, research and development, and the health and well-being of the culture. In addition, we need to make sure that all citizens have access to quality and affordable healthcare.  We believe healthcare can be made more available and affordable, but this cannot be accomplished by cumbersome government bureaucracies and one-size-fits-all regulations.

RESPECT FOR THE INSTITUTIONS OF GOVERNMENT
Governing Republicans have faith in our institutions and democratic processes, even when that does not always produce results as quickly as they might like.  The Republican mission is rooted in the ideals of the Founders, the traditions of the American people, and our party’s illustrious heritage. We hope that the people will allow us the opportunity to put Republican principles into action, and to bring about a new era of prosperity and security for all Americans.
