Bricklayers Endorse Hillary Clinton for President

[Washington, D.C.] September 9, 2015 – No presidential candidate is better qualified than Hillary Clinton to occupy the White House. Moreover, there is only one candidate – Hillary Clinton – who can lead American workers to triumph in the face of today’s hostile political climate, difficult financial times, and relentless attacks against the right to organize. That is why on September 8, 2015, the Executive Board of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) voted unanimously to endorse Secretary Clinton as BAC’s candidate for President of the United States.

Said BAC President James Boland after the Board’s vote, “BAC members need both a fighter and collaborator-in-chief in the White House to create economic growth that works for everyone, not just a few. Secretary Clinton understands and champions the issues that concern our members most – from job creation and infrastructure investment to the value of apprenticeship and training programs among many others. Her values and priorities are our values and priorities, and she can count on the support of our members and union now and through the general election.”

The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the oldest continuous union in North America and represents roughly 80,000 skilled masonry-trowel trades craftworkers in the United States and Canada, including bricklayers, tile setters, cement masons, plasterers, stone masons, marble masons, restoration workers, and terrazzo and mosaic workers.

The portion of this website pertaining BAC’s endorsement of Senator Hillary Clinton is paid for by the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Political Action Committee and is not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.

Hillary Clinton’s Statement on the Endorsement from the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers

Hillary Clinton made the following statement after theInternational Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers announced their endorsement.  The Union represents 80,000 skilled masonry-trowel trades craftworkers and their endorsement comes after previous backing from the American Federation of Teachers and the Machinists Union.

“As a longtime supporter of organized labor, I am honored to receive the endorsement of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.

“It’s strong unions like the Bricklayers that helped build the mighty American middle class over the course of decades. I look forward to fighting along their side to create jobs by investing in infrastructure and to invest in our workforce by expanding apprenticeships.

“As unions have come under attack by Republicans and entrenched corporate interests, American workers everywhere have suffered.  As President, I will fight hard every day to ensure that all workers can enjoy their fundamental rights to organize, to join a union, and to retire with dignity and security--because when unions are strong, America is strong.

I’m proud and grateful that the Bricklayers are standing with me to fight for a bright future for American workers and families.”
