Jindal campaign announces major Iowa endorsement

Speaker Pro Tempore Rep. Matt Windschitl backs Governor Bobby Jindal in Republican presidential race

Council Bluffs, Iowa – Governor Bobby Jindal’s campaign has announced a major endorsement in the race to the Iowa caucuses. Speaker Pro Tempore of the House, Representative Matt Windschitl today gave his support to Governor Jindal, citing his strong Christian faith and leadership on issues such as the economy, second amendment rights and the life issue.

Rep Windschitl said:

“After much thought, prayer, research and discussions with my wife I have decided to make an endorsement in the presidential race.

“I first met Governor Jindal a few years back at a Second Amendment rally in central Iowa. At that rally he delivered a clear and concise message about steps he took in Congress as well as in his own state as Governor to protect and enhance our Second Amendment rights.

“Since that time my respect for him and his leadership has only grown. His commitment to strong Christian principles and his firm foundation in the Lord is unquestionable.

“His ability to govern in tough economic times is well demonstrated. As are his abilities to balance a budget and work with folks from all walks of life to get the job done. He has demonstrated bold leadership on many issues, including taking steps to defund the abortion industry in light of recent revelations about the sale of body parts.

“There is no time like the present to right the course for our nation. I believe the right man for the job of President of these United States is Governor Bobby Jindal!”

Governor Jindal said:

“I am honored to receive the support of Rep Windschitl. I’m grateful to Matt for his service to our country in the Marine Corps, for his service to Iowa in the House and now for his support of my campaign. As we continue to see standing room only crowds at our town hall events, this is further evidence of the energy and enthusiasm we’re receiving as I travel to all 99 counties, asking Iowans to join this movement and believe again in America.”

Windschitl is a rising star in Iowa Republican politics. Having been first elected to the House in 2006, he was unanimously elected Speaker Pro Tempore in 2014. A gunsmith by trade and employed as a switchman with the Union Pacific Railroad, Windschitl is a former US Marine who served on active duty in Iraq. He and his wife, Ivy, live in Missouri Valley with their two daughters.
