As Secretary of State, Hillary stood before the UN General Human Rights Council in 2011 and said that "gay rights are human rights"–and let the effort to pass the first-ever UN resolution recognizing the rights of the LGBT community.

Hillary also fought to make it easier for transgender Americans to change their passports to reflect their true gender.


As Senator of New York,
Hillary worked to defeat the Federal Marriage Amendment. She also championed LGBT non-discrimination protections, fought for inclusive hate crimes legislation, and advocated lifting restrictions blocking LGBT couples from adopting kids.

Hillary repeatedly co-sponsored the Early Treatment for HIV Act to protect LGBT people and expand access to vital treatment options for low-income individuals living with HIV.


As President,
Hillary will fight for full federal equality for all LGBT Americans. She will also work to secure affordable treatment for people living with HIV and AIDS, protect and advance transgender rights, and continue to promote human rights of LGBT people around the world.
