Michigan Stands with Rand

Rand Paul for President Announces Endorsement of State Rep. Tom Barrett

DEWITT- Sen. Rand Paul today brought his message of liberty to Michigan for a two-day tour through the state.

He began his trip by hosting an 'Unleash the American Dream' event in Highland Park with Mayor DeAndre Windom, followed by a breakfast with the 10th District GOP in Macomb County, and meet and greets at Flint Farmer's Market and Dewitt. In front of an overflow crowd of roughly 300 in DeWitt, Sen. Rand Paul received a formal endorsement from State Representative Tom Barrett.

State Rep. Tom Barrett was first elected to serve the 71st District in the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2014. Barrett chairs the House Committee on Military and Veteran Affairs and is a member of the committees on Commerce and Trade, Communications and Technology, Energy Policy and Insurance.

After graduating public high school, Barrett joined the U.S. Army and has continued his service for over 14 years. He is currently serving in the Michigan Army National Guard as a helicopter pilot trained on several different aircraft. He has served overseas in South Korea, Guantanamo Bay, Kuwait, and Iraq. Barrett is a veteran of both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom and has been awarded multiple Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals and other decorations. He holds the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. Barrett currently resides in Potterville with his wife Ashley. They welcomed their son Patrick to the family in 2013 and their daughter Eleanora in 2014.

"I am proud to endorse Sen. Rand Paul for President of the United States for a variety of reasons. As a member of the U.S. military who has served overseas, I recognize the chaos throughout the world and I appreciate Sen. Paul's conservative realist foreign policy. I also believe that Sen. Paul is the most fiscally conservative candidate and the only one capable of tackling our debt crisis. If we want to defend our country, we must have the economic means to do so, and Sen. Paul understands that. I am proud to stand with Rand because he stands for all of us," State Rep. Tom Barrett said.

"I am honored to have the endorsement of State Rep. Tom Barrett, who tirelessly works for the communities he represents. It's time to make Washington work for our communities," Sen. Paul said. "The Bill of Rights was meant to restrain our federal government, not the people. I believe a true leader should not be concerned with gaining power for themselves, but rather giving power back to every American, and as President, that is exactly what I will do."
