Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley
Bethesda, MD...Aug. 5, 2013--Gov. Martin O'Malley, joined by Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and local officials, announced almost $650 million in transportation investments for Montgomery County.

O'Malley and Brown announced that the Purple Line (+), a light rail line which would connect the Bethesda and New Carrollton Metro lines at a cost of $2.2 billion, will be constructed by a public private partnership.

The announcement drew a number of protesters concerned about the Purple Line's impact on the Capital Crescent Trail; others are skeptical of projected ridership figures.

Gov. O'Malley, who is term-limited in 2014, is seen as a potential 2016 presidential candidate.
