RNC 2014 Winter Meeting - Interested Cities for 2016: Kansas City  ...next >
Jan. 23, 2014 - Kansas City has been pursuing its 2016 effort since the RNC's April 2013 meeting in Hollywood, California.  Among the features it is highlighting are its Midwestern location.  ("It's easy to travel here no matter what city or what coast you're coming from.")  Kansas City, which hosted the 1928 and 1976 Republican conventions, is also famous for its barbeque.
Jon Stephens, interim president and CEO at the Kansas City Convention and Visitors Association, is a leader of the KC RNC 2016 effort.
Each RNC Member received a portfolio notebook and reception invitation in their room; they could also pick up small bags containing 1.75 oz. packages of coffee from The Roasterie and two heart-shaped chocolates, as well as small bags of Meat Mitch Whomp! popcorn.

KC RNC 2016 hosted a reception at Del Campo Restaurant on the evening of Jan. 22 featuring former Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole, Senator and Mrs. Roy Blunt, and Mayors Sly James and Mark Holland.  Guests enjoyed Kansas City style barbeque and Boulevard beer.  Jazz singer Angela Hagenbach, a Kansas City native, provided entertainment.

The Kansas City group also hosted a reception at the RNC summer meeting in Boston; Mayors Sly James and Mark Holland likewise attended that event.
