January 24, 2015--Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina received a big boost from her speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit.  As with Walker, many in the audience had likely not seen Fiorina speak as a possible candidate, so there was the element of something new.  But Fiorina also brought the distinctive perspective of a business executive.  She described the situation as she sees it: "Our politics can no longer tinker on the edges, because you see and you know this, the bureaucratic monster that our government has become is not simply inefficient or ineffective or corrupt. The truth now is that our government's size, its complexity, its cost and its power over our lives now work against the interests of the people."  Fiorina's outlining of the "hypocrisy of liberals" resonated with the audience, and she went after likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton more directly than any of the other potential candidates.  "Like Hillary Clinton, I too have traveled hundreds and thousands of miles around the globe, but unlike her I’ve actually accomplished something," she stated.  Fiorina also spoke out strongly and in personal terms against abortion. "Liberals believe that flies are worth protecting, but the life of an unborn child is not," Fiorina said.  [transcript]

Fiorina appeared at the Summit in a magenta outfit.  She was in state for several days.  On January 22 in Des Moines she hosted a private appreciation dinner to thank Unlocking Potential volunteers, and on January 23 she spoke on "Leadership in the Workplace" at the Iowa chapter of the National Contract Management Association's January luncheon in Cedar Rapids.
