Overview:
Trump's 68.17% of the vote was on par with recent Republican showings,
while the Clinton ticket obtained a dismal 21.88%–her worst showing of
any state. Trump's
plurality was 118,446 votes (46.29 percentage points). Trump
carried all counties except for Teton (Jackson). LBJ was the last
Democrat to carry Wyoming, in 1964.
Given
the
one-sided
nature of the presidential race in Wyoming, some
activists made trips to Colorado to help out there; for example the
drive from Laramie to Fort Collins takes little more than an hour. Sen. Tim Kaine did a couple of fundraisers in Jackson on Aug. 18. Donald Trump Jr. visited Jackson on Oct. 3 for a fundraiser hosted by Foster Friess at the headquarters of his Brandywine Fund. Overview Romney/Ryan amassed a plurality of 101,676 votes (40.82 percentage points), carrying all counties but Teton County (Jackson). The percentage margin was second biggest after Utah. Principals made a couple of fundraising visits. Mitt Romney appeared at receptions and a dinner hosted by Vice President Dick Cheney in Jackson Hole on July 11, and Michelle Obama appeared at a fundraising luncheon in Jackson Hole on Aug. 11. Overview Wyoming was never in any doubt as the McCain-Palin ticket secured a plurality of 82,090 votes (32.24 percentage points). Obama fared 7.5 percentage points better than Kerry had and carried Albany County (Laramie...home of the University of Wyoming) in addition to Teton County (Jackson). Population*: 361,078. VEP Highest Office Turnout Rate: 59.2%. Notes: Third parties on the ballot: The Libertarian Party qualified as minor party, having won support from more than 5% of the electors in the last general election. The Natural Law Party and the Reform Party qualified as provisional parties (June 1, 2000 deadline). Howard Phillips qualified as an independent candidate by meeting the signature requirement. (An independent candidate needed to submit signatures of 3,484 certified voters (2 percent of the voting population) by the Aug. 28, 2000 deadline). A Nader petition effort fell short.
