Americans Vote for a New Direction, Says U.S. Chamber

Need Leadership to Create Jobs, Economic Growth

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Tonight’s vote proves Americans want a new direction, one focused on jobs and economic growth, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“Voters made it clear: They want a Congress with the courage to lead and the ability to govern,” said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “Both parties must work together to deliver on the American people’s clear desire for change, even with divided government. Progress has been made under such circumstances before. It can happen again, provided we have leadership that puts the country first and gets things done.”

The U.S. Chamber engaged early in the election cycle to ensure the nomination of candidates who were not only pro-business, but also willing to govern if elected. As part of its election efforts, the organization launched a massive advertising campaign and Get out the Vote effort, and engaged its federation partners throughout the cycle.

The U.S. Chamber also promised to continue to aggressively pursue its Jobs, Growth, and Opportunity Agenda, which includes comprehensive tax reform, immigration reform, domestic energy production, regulatory reform, and international trade, among other priorities.

“America needs to stop drifting and start moving again,” Donohue stated. “With the right policies and leadership from Congress and the White House, we can help reemploy millions of Americans, jumpstart the economy and reassert American competitiveness.”
