Rec'd from DNC Factivists - Jan. 9, 2015

Today, the DNC is launching @DigitalJeb
– a multi-platform bracketing operation for the prospective candidacy of Jeb Bush for president – in an attempt to show the Democratic Party’s #superior #digital #savvy and bring attention to Bush’s rusty, clunky social media rollout since declaring his intentions to seriously explore a presidential bid.

Since Jeb’s launch, not only has he catered almost exclusively to Wall Street and big money donors, but Bush has also suggested that he is embracing social media and will be a digitally aggressive candidate. The problem is, as NBC News points out, “Bush is entering into a completely different landscape than the last time he ran a campaign in 2002.” And it shows.

He uses hashtags like your great-aunt who just joined social media for the first time:

He also took the strange step of posting the DNC’s talking points about him, in full, on his Facebook page, couldn’t really figure out how to shoot an iPhone video, and soft-launched his presidential exploration without any way to capture data or email addresses for supporters – a basic building block of modern campaigns.

Even Republicans were criticizing Jeb for his lackluster digital rollout, with one telling National Journal“There was no search, nothing to capture email addresses. If I wanted to support Jeb’s exploratory effort, I wouldn’t know how. They could have at least had a splash page to capture emails.”

Beyond these, Bush is also eagerly and freely using stock photos, bizarrely, on his Instagram – a medium designed for sharing…your own photos.

So we at the DNC have launched @DigitalJeb on Instagram and Twitter to show just how out of touch Bush is with working Americans, young people and – of course – hashtagging, using the best iStock photos on the Web. Take a look at a couple examples:
