CQ Roll Call and Philadelphia Media Network Announce Partnership for Coverage of Democratic National Convention

Washington, D.C. (July 21, 2016) – CQ Roll Call and the Philadelphia Media Network, announced today plans to join forces in their coverage of the historic Democratic National Convention, taking place July 25-28 in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Media Network, which includes the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com, demonstrated its expertise at covering events of this magnitude when Pope Francis visited the city in September 2015. By combining PMN’s local experience and manpower with Roll Call’s access to congressional leaders, the two media organizations will offer readers unsurpassed coverage of the weeklong convention activities. The combined effort — which will feature Roll Call content on philly.com and vice versa — will cover the official proceedings, security issues, down-ballot race updates and the role played by the powerful superdelagates, many of whom are members of Congress.

“This partnership with the Philadelphia Media Network will expand Roll Call’s reach to a wider audience. We are thrilled to be working closely with a first-class local content partner who has built a strong reputation for covering events on this scale,” said David Ellis, chief content officer of CQ Roll Call.

“We’ll have a large team of reporters covering every angle of convention week, and we’re happy to offer our readers an extra layer of depth, context and expertise by partnering with Roll Call,” said Stan Wischnowski, PMN executive editor and senior vice president. “We like the idea of exposing the great work of Roll Call to our large regional audience of nearly 6 million monthly visitors.”

The Philadelphia Media Network will provide analysis of the city’s preparation for the convention, to be included in CQ Roll Call’s definitive Convention Guide, to be distributed to the 25,000 hotel rooms housing delegates and media. Roll Call’s reporters and columnists — including veteran political writers Walter Shapiro, Patricia Murphy, Jonathan Allen and David Hawkings — will contribute their coverage to Philly.com and the network’s two daily print publications, the Inquirer and Daily News. Editors from both operations will communicate throughout the week in order to provide the most robust coverage.

This follows on the heels of any earlier announcement that CQ Roll Call, the Cleveland Plain Dealer and cleveland.com will have a similar shared content arrangement during the Republican National Convention taking place July 18-21 in Cleveland, Ohio.
