What: Governing Under the Influence Informational leafleting and banners display

When: Sunday, Sept. 14; 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Where: South side of Hwy #92 Indianola, outside of the Harkin steak fry

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is using the opportunity presented by the Iowa caucuses to increase the visibility and broaden the discourse around the corrupting influence of corporate dollars in the political process and in policy making.

Under the theme “Governing Under the Influence” banners will be displayed and informational leaflets will be handed out to Democratic party members and officials as they wait in slow moving lines to enter the Harkin steak fry, wherein Hillary Clinton is being highlighted.

Since both parties are deeply influenced by these corporate dollars, AFSC will be present throughout the campaign at all the major candidate events. On Sunday our message will be directed to Hillary Clinton and the Democratic power structure. In the weeks ahead we’ll be taking our message and our banners to Ron Paul and Chris Christie and whatever other candidates come into Iowa asking for our support” said Kathleen McQuillen of American Friends Service Committee.

There was also Palestine presence organized by AFSC’s Palestine program working in partnership with an emerging Students For Justice in Palestine group; these were intended as separate actions but did end up close together near the entry.
