Important Update: Texas Democrats Delegate Count Now 251

On Friday evening, February 19, the Democratic National Committee officially confirmed Texas’ Unpledged Delegates, commonly known as “Super Delegates,” for the 2016 convention. The new confirmed list brings Texas’ Unpledged Delegates down from 30 to 29. All other delegate categories have remained the same totalling 222 delegates up for grabs on Super Tuesday. Together with 29 Unpledged Delegates, Texas’ total delegate count stands at 251.

Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Crystal Perkins issued the following statement:

“At 251 strong, by far, Texas is the biggest prize on Super Tuesday. We’re excited that our Democratic presidential candidates are working hard to earn every Texas Democrat’s vote and look forward to a strong showing on March 1st.

“Several categories of unpledged delegates hold the position because of the elected offices they hold. If they resign or no longer hold the position, they do not continue serving as convention delegates. Since former Houston Mayor Annise Parker no longer holds office, Texas’ unpledged delegate count now stands at 29.”
