US Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Ten DC City Council Members Endorse Hillary Clinton

Today, US Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, Washington, DC City Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and DC City Council Members Kenyan McDuffie, Jack Evans, Vincent Orange, Mary M. Cheh, Yvette Alexander, Charles Allen, Brianne Nadeau, LaRuby May, Brandon Todd endorsed Hillary Clinton, arguing she is the best choice to raise wages and break down barriers holding back DC families. This list of supporters includes every Democratic city council member that are able to endorse in the Democratic primary.

“Although recent Democratic presidents have supported statehood, today D.C. residents need a president who will take on statehood as her personal cause in the White House, ”Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton said. “I agree with Hillary Clinton on issues from income inequality to debt free college, but I endorsed her only when, in response to my question, she looked me in the eye and said, ‘Eleanor I’ve always supported statehood.’  She has now gone further with an op-ed pledging to be a champion for statehood.  Hillary is standing with us.  We should stand with her.”

“This election is about giving working families a fair shot, and Hillary Clinton has spent her career making sure that they have a seat at the table and she will be their greatest advocate in the White House,” DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said. “She will also build on the success of President Obama from improving the Affordable Care Act to creating jobs and lowering unemployment. Not only will Hillary Clinton shatter the glass ceiling for women everywhere, she will be a vocal champion for statehood for the 670,000 residents of Washington, DC who for too long have had taxation without representation.”

“Hillary Clinton has long been a friend to the District, supporting full autonomy and voting representation in Congress,” DC City Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said. “She is also a proven national leader. For these qualities I support her candidacy for President.  But even more, of all the candidates, Hillary Clinton is in line with the mainstream of America.  She will represent us well both nationally and on the world stage.”

Today’s endorsers will serve as a core team of District leadership to engage voters and work with the Hillary for Washington, DC team to build a team of volunteers and supporters ahead of the June 14 primary.
