Iowa Attorney General and Treasurer Announce Their Support for Hillary Clinton

Iowa's two statewide Democratic elected officials bolster Hillary for Iowa’s grassroots campaign

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller and Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald today announced their support for Hillary Clinton’s campaign and praised her commitment to grassroots organizing. The two statewide Democratic elected officials were early supporters of President Barack Obama’s campaign in 2007 and are announcing their support for Hillary Clinton ahead of the Iowa Democratic Party’s Hall of Fame dinner in Cedar Rapidson Friday night.

Hillary for Iowa has already recruited at least one committed supporter in each of Iowa’s 1,682 precincts. The campaign has 47 grassroots organizers working every day in ten organizing offices across the state.

“Iowa Democrats take their role in selecting our next President seriously and their support has to be earned through a clear commitment to the bedrock values of fairness, equality and opportunity that have defined our party. Hillary Clinton is the candidate that is boldly speaking out on the fundamental issues facing our country and her progressive vision for our country is exactly what we need to keep our country moving forward," said Fitzgerald. “Hillary Clinton’s commitment to growing our economy so that everyday Iowans can get ahead and stay ahead is what Iowa Democrats believe to our core. I’m proud to support Hillary Clinton and look forward to working with her to organize and win in Iowa and next November.”

“Hillary Clinton will build an economy for tomorrow that raises incomes for working Americans, ensures that students don’t graduate with crushing debts and provides affordable childcare options for working families. She’ll strengthen our families by fighting for commonsense policies like comprehensive immigration reform, equal pay for women and criminal justice reform," said Miller. "It takes grassroots organizing to be successful in Iowa and I’m proud to lend my support to Hillary Clinton’s Iowa organizing efforts. Conversations happening in coffee shops, living rooms and field offices about why Hillary Clinton is the champion working families need are going to make the difference on caucus night and put us on the path to victory in November. Hillary Clinton is who we need in the White House and I’m excited to announce my support for her campaign.”

“I want to thank Attorney General Miller and Treasurer Fitzgerald for their years of dedicated service to the people of Iowa and their support in this caucus campaign,” said Hillary for Iowa State Director Matt Paul.“We’re so grateful to have them join our grassroots team. Hillary Clinton has said from the beginning that this campaign is not about her, it’s about the everyday Iowans who she wants to fight for as President. Attorney General Miller and Treasurer Fitzgerald have been fighting for Iowans for years and we’re excited to have them on board to help us earn the support of Iowans in next year’s caucus.”
