South Carolina “Students for Hillary” Launches at 19 SC Campuses

Demonstrating the enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton in the Palmetto State, Hillary for South Carolina launched “Students for Hillary” at 19 campuses in order to organize and mobilize young supporters before the First in the South Primary. Led by Campus Leaders, these students will campaign for Hillary to discuss why she is the candidate who will fight every day for them as President to make college more affordable, reform our criminal justice system, defend the Affordable Care Act, and pass gun violence reforms.

Earlier this summer, Clinton launched the New College Compact, which ensures costs won’t be a barrier and debt won’t hold people back once they graduate. At South Carolina technical schools and community colleges, students would attend tuition-free and should never have to borrow to pay for tuition, books, and fees to attend a 4-year public college. In addition, Clinton’s plan includes a dedicated $25 billion fund to support private colleges, including South Carolina’s private historically black colleges and universities. Campus Leaders have signed up to join Clinton’s grassroots campaign and have committed to taking action on their campuses such as phone banking, canvassing, letter writing or hosting a grassroots organizing event. Supporters can sign up to be a part of the growing list of Students for Hillary here.

Here’s why students across South Carolina are supporting Hillary:

“Students have the opportunity to be a part of a historic movement to elect Hillary Clinton as our next President. Hillary doesn’t back down from the tough challenges and will be a tireless fighter for us. If we want results that make a real difference in people’s lives, we need her determination and leadership in the White House,” said Nick Sottile, President of College Democrats of South Carolina and Students for Hillary USC Campus Leader.

“Hillary is running to not only be the first woman president but to be a champion in the White House for women and young people. She’s ready to solve problems and I’m ready to vote for her because she will pass much needed gun violence reform, make college more affordable, and ensure access to health care,” said Mary-Stuart Tinkler, Vice President of College Democrats of South Carolina and Students for Hillary Columbia College Campus Leader.

“In 2008, we made history with the first African American president, and in 2016, we can make history again with the first woman president. Both President Obama and Hillary Clinton are fighting for the right issues,” said Matthew Cauthen, Treasurer of College Democrats of South Carolina and Students for Hillary USC Campus Leader.

“Our generation is looking for a leader to take on major issues like gun violence, affordable health care, meaningful employment, college affordability, and equality. Hillary is a progressive leader who gets things done,”said Ayeshah Bonds, Students for Hillary Francis Marion University Campus Leader.

“Hillary has been breaking barriers for decades, and she’s more than prepared to tackle the tough issues facing students and young women than any other candidate. Hillary will lead the effort to level the playing field for women by fighting for equal pay and paid family leave while defending women’s health care,” said Bria Burke-Koskela, Students for Hillary Clemson Campus Leader.

“We need to take our work places into the 21st century, and Hillary Clinton will be a leader to pass equal pay, affordable child care, and paid family leave while defending women’s health choices. She understands these issues are more than women’s issues, but rather smart economic issues. Hillary is such an important role model for all of the women on our campus at Converse. We support her because she’s the champion that supports us!” said Taylor Casey, Students for Hillary Converse Campus Leader.

“Hillary Clinton has been a leader in the constant fight for equality. She was one of 27 women in her graduating class at Yale, after law school she worked with the Children’s Defense Fund and for children’s education as First Lady of Arkansas, she used her international platform to advocate for women’s rights as Secretary of State. She is more than just demographically significant, she is simply the most qualified. Hillary Clinton sees no boundaries, she is fighting for a better future and I am proud to fight with and for her,” said Zoe Dale, Studentsfor Hillary USC Campus Leader.

“Our country needs to act on the issue most important to young people, including lowering the cost of education. Too many students are stuck with debt or simply can’t afford college, which is why Hillary Clinton has a smart plan to ensure all students have the opportunity to attend college as well as the opportunity to participate in innovative job training programs,” said Cecilia Grant-Bates, Students for Hillary Midlands Technical College Campus Leader.

“I’m ready for a candidate who will do more than just talk about the challenges facing our
country. Hillary Clinton has a proven record as a problem solver and it’s time we elect a progressive who can drive our country forward,” said Courtney Green, Students for Hillary Erskine College Campus Leader.

“From making college more affordable to taking on gun violence, Hillary Clinton has the determination to get results on the issues that matter. She is a progressive leader who will take a bold agenda to the White House and deliver,” said Carlton Kinard, Students for Hillary Newberry Campus Leader.

“Hillary Clinton is the only candidate with comprehensive plans to address the real concerns that students and families worry about. She’s worked her career to ensure that all young people live up to their God-given potential, which is why she’s my choice for our next president,” said Gene Morris, Students for Hillary Allen University Campus Leader.

“No challenge is too big for Hillary Clinton. She is ready to tackle the tough issues like college affordability, climate change, and gun violence. We need her tenacity and leadership,” said Clyde Moser, Students for Hillary College of Charleston Campus Leader.

“Hillary Clinton knows that we can’t build strong communities when young Americans are drowning in studentdebt. She is the only candidate who has a clear plan to address the rising cost of college while helping young people with debt by refinancing their loans, saving them thousands of dollars. I’m proud to support a fighter for current students and generations to come,” said Austin Nichols, Students for Hillary Coastal Carolina Campus Leader.

“No one is more ready to take on the tough fights of our generation than Hillary Clinton. I am confident in her ability to make college affordable, end the pipeline to prison cycle, create a living wage system, and keep health care affordable,” said Omari Richards, Students for Hillary South Carolina State University Campus Leader.

“From fighting for children’s health care as First Lady to restoring America’s standing in the world as Secretary of State, Hillary has an impressive record of getting things done. In the White House, she will be a tireless fighter for young people,” said Sheridan Ruiz, Students for Hillary USC Campus Leader.

“As First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State, Hillary took on the tough challenges and got results that mattered. By focusing on our everyday concerns, she’ll take the challenges of our generation to the White House and succeed once again,” said Kentrell Scott, Students for Hillary Lander University Campus Leader.

“Young people, like myself, who will cast their first votes know how important this election will be to their future. As our president, Hillary will end the era of mass incarceration and reform policing practices while investing in universal pre-K, our schools, housing, and job training,” said Tevin Smith, Students for Hillary Benedict College Campus Leader.

“Hillary Clinton’s plans to make college more affordable, raise the minimum wage, and defend the Affordable Care Act will make a real difference in students’ lives. She believes that lowering college costs and investing in young people makes sense not only for students, but also for our economy,” said Justin Smith, Students for Hillary Clemson Campus Leader.

“Although women have made significant strides towards equality, we have much progress to
make in our country. Hillary will lead the charge on commonsense issues like equal pay, quality health care, and affordable education,” said Vivien Toumey, Students for Hillary USC Campus Leader.

“Hillary Clinton has never shied away from a tough fight. She is the only candidate who can take on the challenges of our time, from fighting climate change to tackling student loan debt, to implementing criminal justice reform,” said Vanessa Ward, Students for Hillary Coastal Carolina Campus Leader.

“Hillary is the only candidate who can deliver results on the pressing issues facing young people. She has a progressive vision for our country that will help people get ahead and stay ahead,” said Savannah Williams, Students for Hillary Lander Campus Leader.

“The only one that can lead us in the next chapter of unwritten history with a progressive agenda is Hillary Clinton. I’m glad to be part of such a movement to vote for someone who speaks to the most important issues facing students and our families,” said Jada Williams, Students for Hillary USC Campus Leader.

“Hillary Clinton’s plans to make college more affordable, raise the minimum wage, and defend the Affordable Care Act will make a real difference in students’ lives. She believes that lowering college costs and investing in young people makes sense not only for students, but also for our economy,” said Connor Wilson, Students for Hillary Furman Campus Leader.

“Hillary Clinton is the only candidate who devotes herself to the cause of human rights and justice for every human being, and the only one with the experience to raise the awareness of human rights issues around the world that made her one of the most ground-breaking leaders of our time. As a lifetime of human rights advocacy, Hillary has fought for women, for the LQBTQ community and many other as First Lady and Senator, and she’ll do the same as president,” said Daniel Zhang, Students for Hillary Furman Campus Leader.
