Correct The Record Statement on Comey Letter

Washington, D.C.--Today, Correct The Record President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement after the release of FBI Director James Comey’s letter to Congress affirming his July conclusion regarding Secretary Clinton’s email use:

“In the end, the truth wins out. Despite more than a week of baseless attacks from the Trump campaign, today James Comey once again reaffirmed the conclusions he reached in July. Comey’s latest letter now makes clear that Donald Trump’s closing argument is a complete fraud and that Trump and the Republican Party have been dead wrong about this matter. It’s time for Republicans to finally accept the truth and drop their absurd obsession with this case.

“This entire episode has also raised deeply troubling questions about potential collusion between the FBI and the Trump campaign that now must be answered. On Friday, Trump campaign surrogate Rudy Giuliani admitted he knew about Comey’s original letter before Comey sent it. These leaks demonstrate clear violations of the Hatch Act, which was put in place to ensure that employees of the executive branch don’t use their time or taxpayer resources to participate in or influence elections. It’s critical that these leaks be investigated. The American people deserve to know the truth about this deeply troubling and potentially illegal conduct by both FBI officials and the Trump campaign.”

BACKGROUND: The American Legal Democracy Fund filed a complaint on Friday with the Office of Special Counsel calling for an investigation and prosecution of FBI personnel involved in the latest round of leaks intended to influence the outcome of the election.

RNC Statement On FBI Letter To Congress Regarding Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement on FBI Director James Comey’s letter to Congress on the Hillary Clinton email investigation:

“The FBI’s findings from its criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton’s secret email server were a damning and unprecedented indictment of her judgment. The FBI found evidence Clinton broke the law, that she placed highly classified national security information at risk and repeatedly lied to the American people about her reckless conduct. None of this changes the fact that the FBI continues to investigate the Clinton Foundation for corruption involving her tenure as secretary of state. Hillary Clinton should never be president.”
