On July 28 in her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton said of Donald Trump,
"He also talks a big
game about putting America first. Well please
explain what part of America First leads him to make Trump ties in
China, not Colorado. Trump suits in Mexico, not Michigan. Trump
furniture in Turkey, not Ohio. Trump picture frames in India, not
Wisconsin."
The Knotty Tie Co., based in Denver, promptly produced a Hillary Clinton line of scarves and ties. Designs included a "Hearts with Hillary logo" tie and bow tie, a Colorado Flag "I'M WITH HER" tie, bow tie and scarf, a Floral 'H' scarf, and a Clinton dogs tie, bow tie and scarf, each for $45.
Clinton visited the company on August 3, according to the campaign "to highlight Donald Trump's hypocritical and embarrassing history of outsourcing jobs overseas while claiming to fight for the American worker (+)." Speaking later at a rally in Commerce City Clinton stated,
"Just today I
went to the Knotty Tie Company. And I met folks living right here
in
Denver who are making ties and scarves. I hope you like this one
because I got it at Knotty just a few hours ago. I just got interviewed
by one of the local newscasters, and first thing he said to me – he
didn’t even know this was from Knotty – he said, ‘That’s a beautiful
scarf.’ He said, ‘That looks like it's got Colorado colors.’ And
in
fact, one thing I really like about it, is printed right here on the
scarf, it says ‘made in Colorado, not China.’"
Also on August 3 the campaign launched a TV ad on the same theme (+).
