May 4, 2015

email from Steve DeMaura, Carly for America Committee [super PAC]

“Our Founders never intended us to have a professional political class. They believed that citizens and leaders needed to step forward.  We know the only way to reimagine our government is to reimagine who is leading it. I’m Carly Fiorina and I’m running for president.”

Dear [  ],

Today’s excitement is just more proof that Carly Fiorina has the momentum she needs to carry her straight to the White House!   And make sure to TUNE IN tonight at  9:00pm EST to The Kelly Files on Fox News when Carly will talk with Megyn Kelly.  And tomorrow, Carly will appear on The Today Show’s Kathie Lee and Hoda at 10:00am EST with her husband Frank.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT CARLY FIORINA

Carly Fiorina Is “Inspiring” And “Knows Her Stuff”

National Review’s Rich Lowry: “She’s a talented communicator who can be both inspiring and barbed, and will very likely punch above her weight in this crowded field.” (National Review’s “The Corner” Blog, “Carly,” Posted By Rich Lowry5/4/15)

“Morning Joe’s” Joe Scarborough: “And Carly Fiorina, we were at CPAC and saw that she did very well, and unlike a lot of people that were around four years ago, she came on this show and she and Mika had a pretty tough back and forth.  She certainly did very well, which a lot of candidates are not able to stand up under heat and she did. … Because the Carly Fiorina that I saw at CPAC and you saw @CPAC knew what she was doing.” (MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 5/4/15)

Associated Press’s Steve Peoples: “Considered an excellent communicator, Fiorina has a compelling personal story. She began her career as a secretary, earned an MBA and worked her way up at AT&T to become a senior executive at the telecom giant.” (Steve Peoples, “Former Tech Executive Carly Fiorina Enters Presidential Race,” Associated Press5/4/15)

The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin: “She knows her stuff. She’s sophisticated when it comes to matters of technology, global economic issues, trade, regulation and more.” (The Washington Post’s “Right Turn,” Blog, “What Carla Fiorina Brings To The Field,” Posted By Jennifer Rubin5/4/15)

Former Iowa Speaker Of The House Christopher Rants: “We need a change agent; someone who hasn’t been part of the current dysfunction, but has a record of accomplishment in managing a complex organization and articulating a vision for the future and leading that change. I think Carly Fiorina is that leader. And if she runs, I plan to support her and work for her.” (Christopher Rants, Op-Ed, “Columnist: Why Fiorina Stands Out Among GOP Hopefuls,” The Des Moines Register, 5/3/15)

And “Set A High Standard” By Taking Questions From The Press

National Journal: “When newly minted presidential candidate Carly Fiorina began her Periscope town hall on Monday afternoon, she opened herself up to questioning from the American people on a scale unseen so far in the 2016 cycle. At one point, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO had more than 1,000 eyeballs watching her on the feed, some from as far away as France and the Philippines.” (Nora Kelly, “Carly Fiorina Didn’t Answer The Best Questions In Her Periscope Chat,” National Journal5/4/15)

Carly Fiorina Has Impressive Foreign Policy Credentials

She has a breadth of knowledge you wouldn’t expect from a former CEO,’ said Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard.” (Chris Moody, “Does Carly Fiorina Have Foreign Policy Cred?” CNN Politics5/4/15)

Former CIA Director Michael Hayden: “[Former CIA Director Michael] Hayden agrees. ‘I’m not shilling for [Fiorina] -- I’m lined up with Jeb Bush as an adviser -- but I would offer you the view that the chief executive officer from Hewlett-Packard has plenty of opportunity to immerse herself in the broader questions of diplomacy, global commerce and global issues,’ Hayden told CNN. ‘In fact, one might make the argument that that’s as good a preparation as any.’” (Chris Moody, “Does Carly Fiorina Have Foreign Policy Cred?” CNN Politics5/4/15)

Former NSA General Counsel Robert L. Deitz:
“‘She was very helpful to the NSA when she was head of Hewlitt,’ said Robert L. Deitz, a former NSA general counsel and former senior councillor to the director of the CIA. Deitz supports Fiorina’s presidential bid.” (Chris Moody, “Does Carly Fiorina Have Foreign Policy Cred?”
CNN Politics5/4/15)

And Is A “Fierce Critic Of Clinton”

Associated Press“Fiorina, 60, has long been a fierce critic of Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, whose potential to become the nation’s first female president is a centerpiece of her political brand.” (Steve Peoples, “Former Tech Executive Carly Fiorina Enters Presidential Race,” Associated Press5/4/15)

Breitbart: “Carly Fiorina Slams Hillary Clinton In Her Announcement Video” (Sarah Rumpf, “Carly Fiorina Slams Hillary Clinton In Her Announcement Video,” Breitbart5/4/15)

The Washington Times: “Ms. Fiorina has been one of the leading critics of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic frontrunner, over Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email system while in office and over foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation that have presented problems for Mrs. Clinton in the early stages of her second run for the White House.” (David Sherfinski, “Carly Fiorina, Former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Is Running For President,” The Washington Times5/4/15)

DNC Statement on Carly Fiorina’s 2016 Announcement

Washington, DC – With Carly Fiorina announcement that she is running for president, DNC National Press Secretary Holly Shulman released the following statement:

“If Carly Fiorina believes she is qualified to be president, that just goes to show how out of touch the Republican Party is with what everyday Americans need. Fiorina’s short time at Hewlett-Packard is all we need to know – laying off 30,000 employees, while being rewarded with a multimillion dollar bonus. While she is attempting to run on her business record, it consists of mass layoffs, tumbling stock prices, and a failed merger. If this is how Fiorina ran her business, just imagine what she would do to the country.”

The Reviews Are In: A Carly Fiorina Presidency Would Be a Disaster for America

But wait, there’s more:

“A consummate self-promoter, Fiorina was busy pontificating on the lecture circuit and posing for magazine covers while her company floundered. She paid herself handsome bonuses and perks while laying off thousands of employees to cut costs. The merger Fiorina orchestrated with Compaq in 2002 was widely seen as a failure. She was ousted in 2005.” -CNBC Portfolio’s list of worst CEOs of all time

“The stock price dropped by 50% only to rally 10% on the announcement of her firing. She fired 28,000 people before she herself was fired, departing with the 21 million dollar golden parachute that is financing her campaign.” -Arianna Packard, granddaughter of the late HP co-founder David Packard

“For many of her former HP colleagues, President Carly Fiorina is a disturbing idea.” -CNN
“She did damage to a great company and I don’t want to see her do damage to a great country.” -Jason Burnett, the grandson of the late HP co-founder David Packard and Mayor of Carmel, California

“She walked into a fundamentally sound, healthy, vibrant company and had a disastrous tour of duty. She sliced shareholder wealth in half and had a reign of terror that was infamous for its scapegoating, finger-pointing culture.” -Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a professor at the Yale School of Management

“Call her the anti-Steve Jobs. During her 1999-2005 tenure as CEO of Hewlett-Packard, Carly Fiorina proved that she could reverse decades of geek goodwill and alienate customers like no one else. She oversaw the spin-off of HP’s well-respected instruments and medical equipment business, outsourced its beloved calculator division, then issued 7,000 pink slips. Under Fiorina’s tenure, HP brought in more profits from printer ink than PCs.” -InfoWorld in their rankings of the worst tech flops off all time
