Huckabee highlights various subjects including the erosion of public education, government intrusion on personal freedoms, and religion and its changing place in American life.  Huckabee addresses today's divided nation, drawing from his travels as a presidential candidate, to present average, small-town Americans and their optimistic resilience in the face of hard times.

Quotes from Mike Huckabee and GOD, GUNS, GRITS, AND GRAVY

Huckabee on guns:

"I'm not at all in love with guns.  I love freedom.  I love my country and the Constitution.  I love my family and would sacrifice my life to protect them."

Huckabee on social media:

"The anonymity provided on line has certainly prompted the proliferation of the disgustingly crude.  People who would never say such things about another person to his or her face feel unrestrained in their ability to spew snarky sneers in blogs and tweets."

Huckabee on diversity:

"If the value of diversity is exposure to multiple points of view to enable the free examination of a full range of ideas, then aren't we going the wrong way by shutting down those whose beliefs aren't in sync with the elites?  The essence of diversity is celebrating differences."

Huckabee on what constitutes real talent:

"Talentless young women become 'famous for being famous' and get their own reality shows, contracts for product lines and lucrative endorsement deals after turning up in sex tapes that 'somehow' get 'leaked.' We truly have become a 'Culture of Crude.'"

Huckabee on government influence in our lives:

"I don't think we need more money in government; I do think we need more morality and decency in our culture.  And if we really want government to 'get off my lawn,' then part of the solution is better citizens obeying the laws we already have so we don't have to pass new laws to further explain and expand the old ones."

Huckabee on immigration:

"America is not just a nation of immigrants - it's a nation of pioneers.  Our population descended not simply from cultures around the world but from a very specific subset of these cultures: the people who looked at the situation around them - and declared, 'There has to be someplace better than this, and whatever risks I might face, I'm going to go find it.'"

Huckabee on China vs. America:

"I was stunned that China is becoming more like America used to be, while America is becoming more like China used to be.  Even more frustrating, they're doing it by emulating the free-market, entrepreneurial capitalism that made America great, even as we seem to be abandoning it."

Huckabee on the "Bubba-ville" culture"

"In Bubba-ville, we still think the United States is the greatest country in the history of the world, but we know it won't be if we don't return to the principles we were built on.  And it starts with a God who gave birth to this nation and miraculously preserved us through battles we should have lost.  The culture I grew up in created a sense of community, but also a sense of accountability.  I miss the front porch culture.  Communities where people looked after each other, and where we never expected the government to do it, had a real strength about them."
