Governor Jindal Applauds Legislature on Passing a Balanced Budget that Protects Higher Education and Healthcare Without a Tax Increase

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal issued a statement on Sine Die of the 2015 Louisiana legislative session:

"I’m proud that we came together this session to pass a balanced budget that protects higher education and healthcare without a tax increase. I’m also proud that we took back local control of education from the federal government and put us on a path to get out of Common Core. Lastly, I’m proud that we protected religious liberty through an executive order after legislators determined they wouldn’t take a vote on the merits. It’s been a great session and I’m proud of the legislators’ hard work."

ICYMI: Jindal Signs 8th Budget in a Row Without Increasing Taxes

With the 2015 Louisiana Legislative session concluding yesterday, Governor Jindal will accomplish what many critics claimed he couldn’t – he will balance next year’s budget without increasing taxes.  This will be the 8th year in a row of Governor Jindal signing a balanced budget that does not include a tax increase. Under Governor Jindal’s leadership, Louisiana has received six credit rating upgrades during his time in office.

Many Louisiana lawmakers did not want to go along with Governor Jindal’s pledge not to increase taxes. But, Governor Jindal stood his ground and assured lawmakers he would veto a budget package that included a tax increase.  Strong leadership indeed…
