ENDORSEMENT:  KASICH FOR AMERICA ANNOUNCES ITS NORTH CAROLINA STATE LEADERSHIP TEAM

Former North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Robert Orr, State Senator Stan Bingham, and State Representative Craig Horn named North Carolina Co-Chairs

Former State Representative Rex Baker and Republican leader David Robinson named to State Leadership Team

Today, former Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court Robert Orr, State Senator Stan Bingham, and State Representative Craig Horn endorsed Ohio Governor John Kasich for President and are now Co-Chairs of the Kasichfor America North Carolina Team. Also today, former State Representative Rex Baker and Republican leader David Robinson endorsed Gov. Kasich and were named to the North Carolina State Leadership Team.

After eight years on the North Carolina Court of Appeals, in 1994 Justice Orr was elected to the North Carolina Supreme Court and served a decade there until his retirement in 2004, when he became Executive Director of the North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law.  During his service to North Carolinians, Justice Orr was elected four times statewide.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1968--1971, is a strong advocate for state and national parks, and was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina to serve as a district attorney for the 24th District to fill a vacancy through the general election in 2014.

"John Kasich is the most tested, most experienced candidate in this race," said Justice Orr. "In Congress, he led the team that last balanced the federal budget, and it hasn't been done since he left.  He has 18 years of foreign policy experience on the House Armed Services Committee, so he understands foreign policy and what it takes to keep our nation secure.  He took Ohio, a state that was left for dead, and oversaw the creation of 350,000 jobs and made it economically competitive with every state in the Union.  I'm proud to endorse Governor Kasich, and I look forward to working with our state team to put him in the White House."

Now in his third term in the North Carolina House of Representatives, State Rep. Craig Horn is an businessman and entrepreneur who helped build one of the largest foodservice brokerage businesses in the country.  He is a former Laurel City Councilman and served our nation for nearly eight years in the U.S. Air Force as a Russian linguist.  Said Rep. Horn, "John Kasich
continues to offer common-sense, achieveable solutions to America's most vexing problems.  As our nation's economy continues to limp along, Gov. Kasich understands how business leaders make decisions and what it takes to create an environment for economic growth and job creation. I am excited to join his campaign."

State Senator Stan Bingham was first elected to the North Carolina Senate in 2000, representing all of Davidson and Guilford Counties, and serves as Co-Chairman of the Senate Program Evaluation Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety.  Said Sen. Bingham, "No candidate has a record of achievement like Governor Kasich, and no candidate has succeeded on both the executive and legislative levels like he has.  North Carolinians are looking for a President who will not need on-the-job-training, and John Kasich is that candidate."

Said Governor Kasich, "I am truly appreciative that these well-respected and experienced North Carolina leaders are willing and committed to head up my campaign in their state. Justice Orr Rep. Horn and Senator Bingham understand North Carolina and know what it takes to win there. North Carolina is an extremely important state, and with this strong Leadership Team in place, I am confident that we are going to be very successful."

Gov. Kasich is running for President to help Americans restore our nation, live in safety and pass on prosperity to those who come after us—and he’s got the experience to help us do it. He was reelected last year by a 30-point margin after working with his fellow Ohioans to turn an $8 billion shortfall into a $2 billion surplus, cut taxes $5 billion and create more than 300,000 new private sector jobs.  As chair of the Budget Committee in Congress he led the effort to balance the federal budget for the first time in a generation and served 18 years on the House Armed Services Committee where he helped enact President Reagan's national security agenda.  He has also had a successful career as an investment banker, New York Times best-selling author and at FOX News.  He and his wife Karen have twin teenage daughters and live in their home outside Columbus.
