RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Names Chris McNulty Political Director

WASHINGTON - Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement announcing Chris McNulty as the new RNC Political Director:

“I am thrilled to announce Chris McNulty will serve as the new Political Director at the RNC. I look forward to working with Chris as we learn from the Growth and Opportunity Project recommendations and work to change the RNC’s political department to reach new voters across the country. Chris will be an asset as the Committee works to improve our engagement and infrastructure and to implement new strategies that will better allow us to train grassroots volunteers to achieve Republican victories. I am confident Chris’s enthusiasm, energy and extensive political background at the state level, specifically in the areas of grassroots organization and ground game experience, will prove invaluable as we move forward,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

Chairman Priebus continued, “I would like to take the opportunity to thank outgoing Political Director Rick Wiley for his leadership, commitment and hard work over this past cycle. His guidance and knowledge was a critical asset as we worked alongside the Romney Campaign to make gains in the states for Republican candidates up and down the ticket. I’m incredibly grateful for Rick’s service to the RNC and the Party.”

“I am excited to return to the RNC at this particular time due to the great challenges and opportunities in front of us,” said Chris McNulty. “I am anxious to get to work with Chairman Priebus and the rest of the team to implement strategies that will ensure Republican victories across the board in 2013, 2014, 2016 and beyond. We have a lot of work to do to improve our infrastructure across the country as well as upgrade the political programs and operations, but I am thrilled and honored at the opportunity that I have been given and looking forward to making tremendous gains in the years to come.”

Biography of Chris McNulty:

Chris McNulty joins the RNC from the Political Office of the Speaker where he served as the Deputy Executive Director since 2010.

McNulty was born in Columbus, Ohio where his family was living while his father was finishing dental school at the Ohio State University. He is a graduate of John Carroll University where he studied both Economics and Political Science.

McNulty worked on his first political race as a volunteer who organized the grassroots efforts for Judge Thomas Janas in 1994. Janas was successfully elected to be retained after an appointment by then Governor George Voinovich in the very blue Lorain County, Ohio.

In 1995, McNulty went on to work at the Ohio Republican Party where he served as a field representative for Southeast and Northeast Ohio before becoming the Ohio GOP Political Director in 1997. Then State Party Chairman Bob Bennett tapped McNulty as the Executive Director, a post which he served through 2006. Most notably, he was the Executive Director in 2004 when Ohio was the center of the battle for the White House. The Bush campaign was extremely successful in Ohio, winning the state and securing President Bush’s re-election.

Following his stint at the Ohio Republican Party, McNulty then joined the RNC where he served as Regional Political Director for the mid-west from 2006 to 2010. During that time the mid-west saw exceptional gains in the 2010 Congressional mid-term elections at which time McNulty went on to work for Speaker John Boehner as the Deputy Executive Director of the Political Office of the Speaker and his liaison to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).
