Oct. 25,
2013--Hundreds of Democratic women gathered at the Grand Hyatt for a
conference marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of the DNC
Women's Leadership Forum. DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz
emphasized four themes: training from the Association of State
Democratic Chairs as well as the DNC's Hope Institute; technology
including new tools and updating the voter file; increasing voter
turnout, including fighing overly restrictive voter ID laws; and
holding Republicans accountable. She announced creation of the
Democratic Women’s Alliance, described as "a permanent institute at the
DNC to coordinate and work with allied groups to mobilize, engage, and
train Democratic women at all levels." Wasserman Schultz also
mocked the Republican Party's women's outreach efforts stating that
"for Republicans outreach means out of touch." House Minority
Leader Nancy Pelosi and Cecile Richards, President of the Planned
Parenthood Federation of America, also addressed the audience.
First Lady Michele Obama spoke later in the day, but access was limited.
