Will 2014 be the Year for Immigration Reform?
Dec. 11, 2013-America's Voice, a group advocating for immigration reform, organized a briefing on Capitol Hill to present polling results showing support for "immigration reform with a path to citizenship" in key Republican districts.  David Flaherty of Magellan Strategies presented the poll findings.  Frank Sharry, founder and executive director of America's Voice, and Reps. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) discussed the prospects for immigration reform in 2014.  Rep. Guiterrez stated, "I have a lot of confidence; everything is coming together."

America's Voice also highlighted their Immigration Power website which highlights 45 Republican members whose electoral prospects in 2014 "could be determined by the Republican House leadership's decision on whether to move forward on immigration reform."

More about America's Voice:

The mission of America’s Voice (AV) and America’s Voice Education Fund (AVEF) is to harness the power of American voices and American values to enact policy change that guarantees full labor, civil and political rights for immigrants and their families.  We work in partnership with progressive, faith-based, labor, civil rights, and grassroots groups, networks and leaders to enact federal legislation that puts 11 million Americans-in-waiting on the road to full citizenship.

We believe that the moment to enact this type of reform has arrived: coming out of the 2012 elections, it is clear that Americans support it, Democrats promised it, and Republicans need it.  More importantly, this positive policy change would move us forward as a country, helping immigrants, workers, business, communities, and families succeed.

The immigration legislation we support includes the following elements:

 - A direct, fair, and inclusive road to citizenship for immigrants in the U.S. without papers.
 - Channels for future legal immigration that are flexible and functional.
 - Robust protections and guaranteed rights for all workers.
 - Enforcement that is targeted and fair, and respects immigrants’ rights.
 - Full and equal rights for all immigrants.

If we do this right – with a line to get into and a roadmap to citizenship for immigrants in America today; sensible legal channels for immigrants who are needed tomorrow; and accountability for employers who violate the law and exploit workers – we will finally have an immigration system that reflects our values as a nation.
