DNC 2014 Winter Meeting: Mobilizing for 2014 and Beyond  ...next >
Feb. 28, 2014 - The DNC has four regional caucuses.  Regional caucus meetings took place on Friday morning.
The Western Caucus meeting included presentations by the DCCC and DSCC (above).  The battle for control of the Senate is one of the most closely watched facets of the 2014 mid-term elections.  According to the top DSCC graphic "How they (the Republicans) think they'll do it," GA and KY are "must win" for Republicans, and the GOP needs to win all of the contests in MT, SD and WV, win two from NC, AK, AR and LA, and win one from IA, MI and CO.  The Bannock Street Project is a DSCC plan "to identify and mobilize Democrats to hold our seats and put Republican seats in play — even with a tough map."  Points one and three, using data and growing the field campaign, seem pretty straightforward, but point two, "making the 2014 electorate look like 2008 and 2012," may prove difficult.

In the Southern Caucus meeting Gilda Cobb-Hunter (SC), chair of the caucus, spoke as did Florida Democratic Party executive director Scott Arceneaux.  In a recent article for Politico Arceneaux argued that Democrats can retake the South.

During the Midwest Caucus meeting Kansas Democratic Party executive director Jason Perkey (center) urged greater communication among state Democratic party leaders.  DNC vice chair and former Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak looks on and Iowa Democratic chair Scott Brennan is in the foreground.

In the Eastern Caucus meeting state chairs including Keith Wright (New York) discussed developments and races in their states.  At bottom, Sheldon Silver, Speaker of the New York State Assembly, stopped by to look in on the meeting.
