May 13, 2014 - Maryland Gov.
Martin O'Malley (D) spoke at a small media luncheon to draw attention
to upcoming events marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of
Baltimore and the composition of "The Star-Spangled Banner," our
national anthem. He talked a bit about the history of those times
and their significance. |

The Star-Spangled Spectacular
will bring tall ships and festivals to Baltimore's Inner Harbor area
from Sept. 10-16, 2014, including a concert and fireworks display on
Sept. 13. More generally the anniversary celebration is providing
an opportunity to highlight the history of the region and communities
around Chesapeake Bay; for example, various activities are planned
along the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail, a 560-mile land
and water route established in 2008.
