Eighth Congressional District Candidate Forum at Alden Theatre ... >
May 15, 2014 - Bill Euille.
Closing Statement:

Well thank you very much for the opportunity to be here with you this evening and to answer your questions.  My name is Bill Euille, again native Alexandrian, born and raised there.  I was raised by a single mom in public housing, and my mother had to work a couple of jobs to make a living in order for us to survive, but I survived, I overcame the odds and I helped her, not only her but myself by not only getting, delivering the local newspaper, working at a car wash, working at a restaurant, but to do things that would help the family survive.

But it's about me making a difference to help not just myself but others.  I'm a caring individual.  I have a track record and a performance record of making certain that no one is left behind and I inspire you, I uplift you.

I am the only candidate that's served as an elected mayor, just like Jim Moran was before he got elevated to the U.S. Congress, and I'm proud of the fact that I have a record of proven results and getting things done.

I want to go to Capitol Hill to be your next congressperson because I have the experience, the leadership; I have the passion.  I'm a workaholic.  And I want to make certain that I continue delivering and providing the constituent services that I have been doing as an effective mayor for the past 13 years, not to mention my prior nine years on the City Council.  I first got appointed to the school board at the age of 24, served ten long years on the school board, started a business and then got into politics and the City Council.

And I say all this to just simply say that if I can overcome the odds and do all of the things to make my life better but others' lives better as well and improve the quality of life for residents in the City of Alexandria, I want to continue to do those very same things as your representative in Congress just as Jim Moran has done.  I'm a good listener, I'm a consensus builder but more importantly I'm accessible and that's what you'd like to see in your next congressperson.  I ask for your vote on June 10th.
