April 14, 2015 -- The Federal Election Commission celebrated the 40th anniversary of its office opening with an open house.  Originally located at 1325 K Street, it moved to its current location at 999 E Street in 1986.  Above, Ann M. Ravel is FEC Chair for 2015; she was appointed by President Obama and took office on Oct. 25, 2013.  See the FEC 40th Anniversary Timeline.

Commissioner Steven Walther with former Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky.  Walther has served as a Commissioner since Jan. 2006, including as chairman in 2009.  von Spakovsky served as Commissioner from Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2007.  He is now a senior legal fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies and manager of the think tank’s Election Law Reform Initiative.

Commissioner Steven Walther with former Commissioner Scott Thomas.  Thomas started at the FEC as a legal intern in 1975 and served as Commissioner from Oct. 1986 to Jan. 2006, including as chairman in 1987, 1993 and 1999.  He is now co-leader of the public policy and political law practice at Dickstein Shapiro LLP.

Bradley Smith served as Commissioner from May 2000 to Aug. 2005 including as chairman in 2004.  He is founder and chairman of the Center for Competitive Politics.
