March 16, 2015 - Speaking at the
American Action Forum as part of the organization's Fred Malek Lecture
Series, Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-LA) focused his speech on foreign policy
and the need to invest in the military. He then fielded questions
on a range of subjects. Jindal said he is "still a couple of
months
away" from a decision on a possible presidential campaign. "We
are more focused on what the next president should do," Jindal said,
pointing to the policy papers his 501(c)(4) America Next has issued on
health care reform, energy, national security and education.
Addressing the
budget situation in Louisiana, he said, "I'm against tax increases,
period." He stated, "I'll veto any tax increase; I'll veto any
budget that includes a tax increase." On health care Jindal
emphasized "reducing costs and making health care affordable." On
Common Core, he said that beyond ending it in Louisiana he sees a need
to "radically reshape the federal Department of Education" to forestall
the emergence of similar programs in future. "The Republican
Party's got to be the party of solutions," Jindal said, adding, "The
next president's going to have to make big changes."
