March 30, 2015 - Speaking The
George Washington University, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-VA) was
sharply critical of the Obama Administration's nuclear negotations with
Iran, declaring that Iran has "never kept a treaty, ever."
Santorum detailed his long experience with the issue, and said it is
important to understand "the nature of the enemy we confront."
Iran, Santorum said, "is a radical Islamic Republic." "They are
on a religious mission," Santorum declared. Six world powers including the United States have been negotiating with Iran over their nuclear program for years and are working towards a March 31 deadline in the current phase of the talks. The negotiations have beeen much in the headlines recently. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu made a controversial speech to a joint session of Congress on March 3, and 47 Republican Senators released an open letter on March 9. Santorum defended the letter, organized by Sen. Tom Cotton (AR) as "the least he could do." "Leaders have a responsibility to inform the American public of what the facts are," Santorum said. The second issue Santorum took on was the recent heated controversy over the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in Indiana, or what he termed the "fatwahs against Indiana." Santorum stressed the importance of religious liberty, and referred the audience to “One Generation Away," a film his Echolight Studios produced on the subject. Finally, Santorum took questions, including a couple from people who sought to challenge his opposition to same sex marriage. He defended his position forcefully. Young America's Foundation organized Santorum's appearance. |
