January 24, 2015--Former Gov.
Rick Perry stayed fairly
close, but not 100-percent glued to his prepared
remarks. He emphasized job creation. "We
have this tremendous opportunity to put forward this pro-growth agenda
that
returns jobs from overseas, increases wages, and allows the middle
class
families to once again climb the ladder of success after a lost decade
of economic decline," he stated. He highlighted his record in
Texas, stating a familiar statistic, "You see in
the last 14 years, Texas has created almost one-third of all the new
jobs
in America." Well into his speech, more than half way through,
Perry addressed illegal immigration, and at that point protesters from
the DREAM Action Coalition in the balcony started shouting. The
protesters really energized the crowd;
one can joke that Perry might consider hiring them for future
speeches. Finally, the word "revival" seems quite fashionable;
Perry
used it three times in his speech (it appeared once in prepared remarks
and he twice replaced renewal (prepared remarks) with revival). [transcript]
