EVAN MCMULLIN PETITION AUTHENTICATED, ON MINNESOTA BALLOT LINE UNDER INDEPENDENCE PARTY BANNER
AUGUST 25, 2016 (SAINT PAUL, MN) – The Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office today informed the Independence Party of Minnesota that the petition the party submitted on Tuesday to place Evan McMullin on their ballot line for President has been “verified as being sufficient.” In contrast, the Republican Party failed to follow state law and, as of Thursday morning, Donald Trump had not yet been certified as a candidate.
McMullin declared his candidacy on August 8. After deliberations, the Independence Party endorsed McMullin on August 13. The party then set about organizing a petition drive to collect at least 2000 signatures. In 8.5 days the party collected, and submitted, in excess of 2450 signatures of Minnesotans looking for a common sense alternative to the candidates currently being presented.
“I am extremely proud of our team and the work of the McMullin campaign for accomplishing in just over a week what some campaigns take 3 months to do,” said Phil Fuehrer, State Chair of the Independence Party of Minnesota.
Minnesota is the 7th state that McMullin has gained ballot access in over just 2 weeks time. In addition to Minnesota he has already secured access in Utah, Iowa, Colorado, Louisiana, Idaho and Arkansas.
The party is now working to get Evan McMullin to come out to the “Great Minnesota Get Together” – the State Fair.
