O'Malley: My parents' grandparents were immigrant people for the most part.  My mom's were Germans and my dad's people were Irish.  And their first language when they came to our country was not English, but the dreams they had for their children and grandchildren were deeply American.  They came here because this is the land of opportunity, where whereever you start you can work hard and get ahead.  And I suppose because of my immigrant great grandparents I always kept a sign on my desk as mayor and as governor that read "No Irish Need Apply."  And it was a reminder that we were all once strangers in a strange land.

I came here today because I have a very important announcement to make.
