Democracy in America is gone.

Again and again, Congress fails to do what America needs. Today, the the best way – and sometimes the only way – to influence D.C. is to bankroll politicians. Congress doesn't represent the people. It represents its funders.

Every issue – from climate change to gun safety, from Wall Street reform to defense spending – is blocked by this fundamental problem.

The Citizen Equality Act of 2017

Only Larry Lessig has a comprehensive plan to restore the equality our representative democracy is founded on – and do it FIRST. The Citizen Equality Act of 2017 will enact three non-partisan principles to fix our democracy:

EQUAL RIGHT TO VOTE

The Citizen Equality Act will include the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2015 and the Voter Empowerment Act of 2015 to guarantee the equal freedom to vote, add automatic voter registration, and turn election day into a national holiday.

EQUAL REPRESENTATION

The Citizen Equality Act will give each voter as close to equal political influence as possible by redrawing districts and restructuring election systems. It will use FairVote's ''Ranked Choice Voting Act'' to end political gerrymandering and create multi-member districts with ranked-choice voting for Congress.

CITIZEN FUNDED ELECTIONS

The Citizen Equality Act will end pay-to-play politics by changing the way we fund campaigns. Every voter will receive a voucher to contribute to congressional and presidential campaigns. Federal campaigns will receive matching funds for small-dollar contributions. And new limits will restrict the revolving door between government service and work as a lobbyist.
