Feb. 12, 2015 -- Speaking at
Lincoln Labs'
Reboot Congress conference Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) vowed to continue to
be "a big thorn in the side of big government who wants to invade your
privacy." Michael Arrington, founder and former co-editor of the
TechCruch blog interviewed Paul and the two discussed a range of topics
including the Patriot Act and privacy, vaccines, Net neutrality and
interest rates.. "Don't look to government, look to yourselves,"
said Paul. "I'm pessimistic about government; I'm optimistic
about what people can do outside of government," Paul stated.
Asked about a possible presidential run, Paul said, "Maybe."
Elaborating, he said he is "thinking very strongly about it." He
said he is assessing whether he has a chance, whether his message is
resonating, as well as family considerations and will decide in
March-April. Arrington said it seems to him that in America today
rural Republicans/conservatives and urban Democrats/liberals are not
talking to each other; he asked whether Paul thought he could bridge
that gap. Paul noted that last year he had spoken on privacy at
CPAC and had delivered a similar message at Berkeley, and was received
well in bother appearances. He suggested there might be a "leave
me alone coalition."
