[Music] Dr. Ben Carson, M.D.: Hello.  What does that flag behind me mean to you? 

It means one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
 
Our strength is our unity.  And yet today there are forces that are attempting to divide us.  They don't want us to have that unity; they don't want us to have that strength.  It's the reason that I dislike political correctness so much, because not only are the forces trying to divide us, but they don't even want you to talk about it while they change the fabric of our nation. 

This is not what we want.  We want a strong woven fabric that includes all of us.

In World War II on D-Day on the beaches of Normandy those soldiers weren't saying to each other "are you a Democrat? are you a Republican?"  They were saying "let us overcome this evil, this tyranny that is about to take over the world."

We are an exceptional nation, but we are in fact one nation.  And the sooner we understand that, the sooner we begin to make progress with our problems and stop tearing each other down.

Think about that when you look at that flag.  Think about Fort McHenry and Francis Scott Key as he sat on those British ships all night long thinking that fort was going to be destroyed, the flag was going to be taken down.  But in the morning that flag was still flying.  And if you had come onto the grounds of Fort McHenry you would have seen dead American soldiers lying there having taken turns holding up that flag.  That's what it meant to them, and that's what it should mean to each one of us.

We all bring something special to this nation.  One of the reasons that America reached the pinnacle so fast is because it had so many people from so many backgrounds with so much talent.  What happens when we learn how to use that synergistically rather than allowing people to manipulate us and put us into corners and making us fight each other.

We can and we must do better. 

It is amazing what we will be able to do when we act like one nation.
