"Bernie Sanders at Vergennes
Memorial Day Parade"
+
2:04 video from May 26, 2015.
TEXT: Vergennes, VT May 25, 2015
Reporter: ...small town has a presidential candidate at their Memorial Day parade. Why come out here today?
Sanders: Well I've been coming here for about 25 years, almost every year. The city of Vergennes and the American Legion put on a wonderful, wonderful event and hundreds and hundreds of people participate with floats and then there's going to be a Memorial Day ceremony, and I think in the midst of all of this it's important to remember what today is about.
Nat. Sound (lots of crosstalk):
VFW Man: Run Bernie
Run...
Sanders: How are you? I missed a good event in Brookfield,
huh?
VFW Man 2: Hey, Bernie, how's
it going? Do you want to do a good job for
us?
Man: I thought you would be here.
Sanders: Thank you.
Man: You're going to
say a few words?
Sanders: I will.
Man: Good.
Sanders: Do you
need a hand?
Sanders: How are
you? Hello.
Voice: How are you
doing?
Sanders: Hi.
Sanders to Granddaughter:
Are
you
going to walk with grandpa?
to crowd: Hello.
Sanders (speech):
And I'm very glad that my grandchildren are here
today and my family is here today, my wife and family, because I want
them to understand, and I applaud the city and the American Legion for
every year involving young people in this event because it is important
for the young people and all of us to remember the ultimate sacrifice
that so many made, and the burden and the sorrow that their families
are living with. [applause]

Man (audio): Thank
you; thank you, Bernie.
Granddaughter: I'm
so tired.
Sanders: You're so
tired? Mommy is carrying you and you're tired.
Mother: You want to
carry Momma.
Sanders (responding to
someone on the parade route): Thank you very much.
Notes: Marks Memorial Day
and shows Sanders on his home turf.
