Huckabee champions "America first" at Fox Business debate

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee championed the FairTax and American workers, proving he is the best GOP candidate for president at tonight's Milwaukee debate. Below are some excerpts from the evening.

FairTax:
"The FairTax is the best plan for economic growth in this country. We don't need to reduce the IRS, we need to eliminate it! The government has no business knowing how much we make!"

"Why should we punish people for their productivity? The FairTax doesn't punish people for doing well and building the economy."

Closing Statement:
"I've never been the favorite of the people who have the most money. But I want to be the favorite of the people who still believe the American dream can work for them. Today, I got a letter from a third grader in North Dakota, her name is Reese. She sent six dollars from her allowance and said, "I want to help you be President." I'm going to keep standing on this stage and fighting for one reason. Somewhere out there in North Dakota and all over America there are kids like Reese who need a president who will never forget where they came from, and I promise I won't.

Veterans:
"Tomorrow is Veterans Day.  The VA has been a disaster in large part because the people in Congress have never bothered to fix it. What would happen if Congress and the President had to get their health care from the VA?  We would fix the problem and we would fix Congress!"

"We have not taken seriously the moral, not the monetary, the moral obligation to take care of veterans and to keep America's promise to the ones who kept their promise to America."

Poverty:
"I know a thing or two about being poor. I grew up poor. And nobody wants to be poor!"

Syrian Refugees:
"Are we going to open the door so that ISIS will come on in and we'll give them a place to stay and a good sandwich and medical benefits?  My gosh we have $19 trillion in debt.  We can't even afford to take care of Americans! Let's ask the Saudis to step up. I'm really tired of Americans being the only ones asked to do all the heavy lifting when it comes to charity."

This guy really deserves to be on the main stage. He had another commanding performance while Santorum embarrassed himself. Christie, welcomed to the kid’s table, had to deal with a Jindal who is clearly not a fan of Christie’s and Jindal got the better of him.

Bobby Jindal went on the attack against Chris Christie, going after the New Jersey governor's record on economic issues, dinging him as a "big-government Republican."
Records matter, Jindal said, as does the way governors govern. The Louisiana governor pointed to credit upgrades and budget decreases in Louisiana and credit downgrades and budget increases in New Jersey.

Jindal later sprung a trap for Christie, arguing he had failed to sufficiently trim his state's budget.
"Let's not just beat Hillary, let's elect a conservative to the White House, not just any Republican," Jindal said, arguing that the GOP shouldn't be "a second liberal party."

More than a few observers felt Jindal had pushed too hard. But one experienced GOP hand, Alex Castellanos, saw a deliberate strategy in Jindal's approach. "Turns out all @BobbyJindal needed to get big was a big opponent," Castellanos, who is not affiliated with any campaign, said. "Thank you @GovChristie. Best day of Jindal campaign yet."

Rick Santorum for President 2016
November 10, 2015 fundraising email

Joe --

What a debate!

It takes a lot to build a history of being a true conservative while winning in a blue state, and I'm proud to have taken the debate stage tonight as the only candidate to have both on his resume. While other candidates bickered, I continued to stand and fight for the American worker.

That's how I won tonight's debate.

And the folks out there on social media agreed. POLITICO tonight declared me the winner of the debate as the one who sparked the most conversation. That's why I keep going -- Americans need to know that there's a candidate out there standing for their traditional values, fighting to rebuild the economy, and strengthen our stature overseas.

Let's keep the momentum going! Donating to my campaign will make sure that we can keep up the fight for American families going strong.

Thank you!

-Rick
